Vintage Battery Operated Japan Space Rocket Base With Box

Made in Japan for Simpson - Sears Ltd., and part of the Turnpike Line of toys issued in the 1960's. A scarce, if not rare, space toy due to limited distribution in Canada only and a fragile space rocket.

A massive toy, the rocket measures about about 21 inches tall. The rocket is working and travels with a rocket engine room that features a rotating light. Stand the rocket up on the launch pad, switch the lever to "Smoke" and the illuminated engine engages as smoke pours from the exhaust! The instructions/diagrams remain present.

A break on one of the rocket fins has been neatly glued back into place, and the plastic rod serving as the "capsule" is no longer present. One of the engine lenses has a chip out of it, but it remains firmly attached.

Note the stress cracks around the motor area. Despite this the rocket is firmly held in place. One of the battery box hinges is broken but the cover still functions and is firmly held in place when closed and latched.

The gantry itself is in like new condition and includes the four spaceman that originally came with the set. The elevator works well, but is a little stiff in one direction. The instructions/diagram are included.

The box is fair/good and as rare as the toy. There are numerous repaired tears, but it displays great. The box art is terrific. A slight smell of smoke which is dissipating by the day.

We've been pretty detailed in the downsides of the toy, but the toy and gantry is a work of art.
